IndiGo and Air India to Shift Flights to Navi Mumbai Airport in December 2026
IndiGo and Air India Group will begin transitioning flights from Mumbai’s existing airport to Navi Mumbai International Airport starting December 2026.

NEW DELHI, Oct 26: IndiGo and the Air India Group plan to shift flights from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) to the newly constructed Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) starting in December 2026. This initiative aims to alleviate congestion at CSMIA and facilitate the redevelopment of Terminal 1.
The transition will occur in stages and is expected to continue through the summer aviation season of 2027. As part of this coordinated effort, IndiGo will transfer 12 daily international departures to NMIA, which includes flights to destinations such as Bahrain, Riyadh, and several others.
IndiGo aims to enhance its service by adding another daily flight to Kathmandu, expanding its international operations at NMIA to 12 destinations. The airline will also shift supporting domestic flights to aid international connections at the new airport.
Air India Group’s transition includes moving services from Air India Express to NMIA, targeting West Asia routes such as Jeddah and Riyadh. This shift is anticipated to be completed by the Northern Summer 2027 season. Both airlines’ moves follow extensive discussions with Adani Airport Holdings, which manages both airports.
An official statement from Adani Airport Holdings expressed support for these transitions, citing the airport’s advanced technology and the potential for enhanced connectivity in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
The planned transfer is projected to relocate approximately 3 million passengers, which accounts for about 60% of the expected traffic in the initial phase. This move will assist with the ongoing redevelopment of CSMIA’s Terminal 1 and establish a dual-airport system for Mumbai.
IndiGo and Air India Group officials have indicated that the completed shifts will enhance options for travelers and support the growth of aviation infrastructure in the area. The final dates for the transition of services will be announced after necessary project coordination and approvals are secured.
