Agra Erupts in Violence as Karni Sena Attacks SP MP’s Residence Over Rana Sanga Remark; Several Police Injured

Agra, March 26, 2025 – Tensions flared in Agra on Wednesday as over 1,000 Karni Sena activists, some arriving with a bulldozer, launched a violent protest outside the residence of Samajwadi Party (SP) Rajya Sabha MP Ramji Lal Suman. The attack was in retaliation to the MP’s controversial remarks in Parliament, where he referred to Rana Sanga as a “traitor” during a speech in the Rajya Sabha on March 21.

The situation spiraled into chaos with stone-pelting, vandalism, and clashes between Karni Sena and SP workers. Several police personnel were injured in the confrontation, and law enforcement had to resort to lathi-charge to disperse the mob.

Violence Outside MP’s Home: Property Damaged, Police Injured

The protest turned violent as Karni Sena supporters smashed 40-50 chairs, broke the main gate, and vandalized more than 10 vehicles parked outside the MP’s home. Windows and glass doors were also shattered. The incident occurred just 1 km from a public event attended by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, raising serious concerns over security.

Police tried to control the situation but were met with fierce resistance, with protesters breaking barricades and shouting slogans like ‘Jai Shri Ram’. As tensions escalated, police forces from multiple stations were deployed to regain control.

SP Workers Clash with Protesters

As the situation worsened, Samajwadi Party workers also arrived at the scene to protect the MP’s residence. This led to direct confrontations between the two groups, further aggravating the situation. Police imposed temporary lockdown measures in the locality, sealing both entry gates to the MP’s residential society and instructing residents not to step outside.

Karni Sena Demands Public Apology at Rana Sanga Memorial

Okendra Rana, National Youth President of Karni Sena, released a video demanding a public apology from Ramji Lal Suman.

“He must go to the Rana Sanga Memorial in Rupwas, fall at the feet of the statue, and beg for forgiveness,” said Rana. “Every brick of his house should bear Rana Sanga’s name. We will not forgive this insult to our great ancestor.”

Karni Sena maintains that the MP’s comments were a direct insult to the Rajput and Kshatriya community and has called on members to unite in protest.

What Did MP Ramji Lal Suman Say?

In a fiery statement in the Rajya Sabha on March 21, Ramji Lal Suman questioned the political narrative around lineage and nationalism:

“If Muslims have Babur’s DNA, then Hindus must have the DNA of traitor Rana Sanga, who invited Babur to defeat Ibrahim Lodi.”

The comment has sparked nationwide backlash, especially from the Rajput community, which holds Rana Sanga as a legendary warrior and symbol of unity.

Who Was Rana Sanga?

Rana Sanga, also known as Maharana Sangram Singh, ruled Mewar from 1509 to 1528. A descendant of the Sisodia Rajput dynasty, he is known for uniting the Rajput kingdoms and resisting Mughal invasions. Rana Sanga is celebrated for his leadership in organizing Rajput resistance against foreign rulers and defending the sovereignty of Rajputana.
