New Delhi, March 2: India and Afghanistan are set to face off in a Test and One Day International (ODI) series, as announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The Afghanistan cricket team will tour India in June 2026 for this series.
The lone Test match will be held from June 6 to June 10, 2026, in New Chandigarh. The ODI series will consist of three matches, with the first match scheduled for June 14 in Dharamshala, the second on June 17 in Lucknow, and the third on June 20 in Chennai. All ODIs will commence at 1:30 PM.
Historically, India and Afghanistan have played only one Test match, which took place in Bengaluru in 2018, where India won by an innings and 262 runs. Shikhar Dhawan was named Player of the Match for his score of 107 runs, while Ajinkya Rahane captained the Indian team.
In terms of ODIs, the two teams have played four matches, with India winning three and one match ending in a tie. The last ODI was played on October 11, 2023.
Afghanistan’s performance in the 2026 T20 World Cup was disappointing, as they failed to reach the Super 8 stage, unlike their previous semi-final appearance. The team has appointed Richard Pybus as their new coach, replacing Jonathan Trott. The cricketing world will be watching closely to see how Afghanistan rebounds from their World Cup struggles, and the upcoming tour of India is expected to provide valuable experience.
