Mirzapur, May 17 — The Adani Group has announced the establishment of a massive 1,500 MW coal-based thermal power plant in Dadri Khurd village, Mirzapur, setting the stage for Uttar Pradesh’s largest-ever power project. This strategic development comes after the signing of a long-term power supply agreement between Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) and Adani Power Limited on May 16, 2025.

The landmark initiative marks a turning point in the state’s energy sector, promising not only improved power generation but also widespread economic and employment benefits.
💼 $2 Billion Investment to Generate Thousands of Jobs
The thermal power plant will be developed with an investment of $2 billion (approx. ₹16,600 crore). During the construction phase, the project is expected to create 8,000 to 9,000 jobs, while approximately 2,000 permanent jobs will be created once the plant becomes operational.
Speaking on the occasion, Adani Power CEO S.B. Khyalya stated that the plant would not just generate electricity, but also “illuminate the lives of thousands of families” through employment and improved energy access.
⚡ Cost-Effective Power Supply to Save ₹2,958 Crore for Uttar Pradesh
The power generated from the plant will be supplied at a rate of ₹5.383 per unit, which is expected to save the state approximately ₹2,958 crore over the next 25 years. The facility will feature ultra-supercritical 2×800 MW technology, known for higher efficiency and reduced emissions, aligning with sustainable development goals.
📆 Full Operation Targeted by FY 2030
The project will follow the Design, Build, Finance, Own, and Operate (DBFOO) model. Adani Group aims to have the plant fully operational by financial year 2030, contributing significantly to the state’s energy requirements.
🔋 New Era for Uttar Pradesh’s Power Sector
This mega project has already received clearance from the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet, setting the foundation for a new chapter in the state’s power infrastructure. Once operational, the plant will not only boost electricity generation but also contribute to long-term energy security and affordability for millions in the state.
