11 People Swept Away in Stream While Heading to Punjab from Himachal, 9 Dead

Chandigarh, August 11 (Udaipur Kiran): Continuous rainfall since Saturday night has caused widespread destruction in six districts of Punjab. On Sunday, a tragic incident occurred in a village near the Himachal border in Hoshiarpur. An Innova car carrying 12 people was swept away by a fast-flowing stream. So far, the bodies of nine passengers have been recovered, while two others are still missing.

Hoshiarpur SSP Surendra Lamba stated that the passengers, all from a single family, were traveling from Dehla in Una district, Himachal Pradesh, to attend a wedding in Nawanshahr, Punjab. Due to heavy rains in the Doaba region, the Innova was swept away by the water. The police, upon reaching the spot, called in the NDRF team to assist in the rescue operation. With the help of JCB machines, the rescue team managed to save one person trapped in the car.

The deceased have been identified as Deepak (son of Surjit Bhatia), Surjit (son of Gurdas Ram), Paramjit Kaur, Saroop Chand, Binder, Shino, Bhavana (18), Anju (20), and Harmeet (12). The search for the two missing persons is still ongoing.
