Udaipur, April 4 (Udaipur Kiran): The Central Government has approved construction of an elevated corridor in Kherwara town at a cost of ₹363.89 crore, fulfilling a long-pending demand of local residents.
Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari announced the approval for the project on National Highway-48 (Udaipur–Ratanpur–Shamlaji section). The elevated structure aims to streamline traffic movement by separating local and highway traffic, while also addressing identified accident-prone black spots to improve overall road safety.
The project is expected to ease congestion in Kherwara, where the highway passes through the town, causing frequent traffic pressure and safety concerns. By allowing through-traffic to bypass local roads via the elevated structure, the initiative will help reduce travel time and ensure smoother connectivity.
The approval comes following consistent efforts by Udaipur MP Mannalal Rawat, who had been pursuing the matter as a priority. He had raised the issue with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and also held discussions with the Union Minister, seeking early action.
Local residents and representatives had earlier highlighted the increasing traffic challenges and accident risks in the area. Responding to these concerns, the ministry conducted a survey and has now granted formal approval for the project.
