Young Indian-Origin Player Makes History with Century in T20 World Cup

New Delhi, February 17: Indian-origin player Yuvraj Samra has become the youngest player to score a century in the T20 World Cup. Playing for Canada, Yuvraj achieved this remarkable feat at just 19 years and 141 days old.

In this match, Yuvraj faced 65 balls, hitting 6 sixes and 11 fours to score 110 runs. With this century, he surpassed Pakistan’s Ahmed Shehzad, who had scored a century at the age of 22 years and 127 days against Bangladesh in 2014. Suresh Raina ranks third on this list, having scored a century at the age of 23 years and 156 days against South Africa in 2010. Alex Hales (25 years and 83 days) and Glenn Phillips (25 years and 327 days) follow in fourth and fifth places, respectively.

With this innings, Yuvraj also became the youngest player to score a half-century in the T20 World Cup, surpassing Bangladesh’s Junaid Siddiqui, who achieved this at 19 years and 325 days. Pakistan’s Umar Akmal is third on the list, having scored a century against South Africa at the age of 19 years and 349 days. Rohit Sharma had previously accomplished this at 20 years and 143 days against South Africa.

This innings is also the highest individual score by an Associate team player in the T20 World Cup, surpassing USA’s Aaron Jones, who scored an unbeaten 94 runs against Canada in 2024. Scotland’s Michael Jones ranks third with an 86-run innings against Ireland in 2022, while George Munsey scored 84 runs against Italy in 2026.

In the match, Canada batted first, scoring 173 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. In response, New Zealand won the match comfortably, chasing down the target in just 15.1 overs with 8 wickets remaining.

Yuvraj Samra’s family hails from Punjab. His father, Baljeet Singh, moved to Canada from Punjab. Yuvraj was born on September 29, 2006, in Brampton, Ontario.
