Riyadh, November 5 (Udaipur Kiran) — Defending champion Coco Gauff produced a dominant performance on Tuesday, defeating Italy’s Jasmine Paolini 6-3, 6-2 to claim her first win at the WTA Finals 2025 and send Paolini out of the tournament.

The 21-year-old American, who had struggled with 17 double faults in her previous match against compatriot Jessica Pegula, made a strong comeback this time, limiting her errors to just three double faults while maintaining control throughout the contest.
“I knew this win was necessary to stay in the tournament. If I had lost, I’d be out,” Gauff said after the match.
Gauff started aggressively, racing to a 3-0 lead within 10 minutes in the first set. Paolini fought hard to hold serve in the next game — saving three break points — but Gauff’s powerful returns and sharp baseline play earned her a 5-3 lead, before sealing the set 6-3.
In the second set, Gauff’s tactical precision kept Paolini on the run across the court. The American secured two consecutive breaks, building a commanding 5-2 advantage, and then closed out the match with a strong service game.
“I felt I served smartly today,” Gauff said. “But I also don’t think Jasmine was 100% fit.”
The victory keeps Gauff in contention for a semifinal spot, while Paolini’s campaign ends with the loss.
