Patna, May 11, 2025 — A 32-year-old woman’s body was discovered late Saturday night inside a rainwater drain pipe at the under-construction new terminal building of Patna Airport, sparking shock and concern over serious lapses in security within a high-security zone. Authorities suspect the woman may have been raped and murdered, with her body later concealed in the drainage system.

Body Found During Pipe Inspection at Terminal Construction Site
The incident came to light when engineers, investigating a blockage in one of the newly installed pipes, cut through a section and discovered the body in a partially decomposed and semi-nude state. The pipe had a diameter of nearly 2.5 feet and was part of the drainage system intended to direct rainwater from the terminal’s roof.
According to DSP (Secretariat-1) Dr. Anu Kumari, the police were alerted around 8:00 PM on Saturday. The body was removed from the pipe and sent to the mortuary for post-mortem analysis. Preliminary estimates suggest the body had been there for at least two days.
Rape-Murder Angle Under Investigation
Initial investigations point toward possible sexual assault followed by murder, with suspicions focused on construction workers involved in the pipeline fitting. Police are verifying records of all workers and have begun questioning employees and contractors associated with the terminal project.
While three construction agencies have confirmed the employment of women on site, only one female worker is reportedly unreachable, and her mobile phone remains switched off. Authorities are working to trace her identity and ascertain if she is the deceased.
Security Concerns at High-Security Premises
This chilling incident has raised serious questions about security lapses at a sensitive infrastructure site like an international airport. The body being hidden inside a drainage pipe within the airport premises has led to widespread concern and an immediate review of surveillance and staff movement records.
Airport authorities and the police have assured a thorough investigation, and efforts are underway to verify CCTV footage, gather forensic evidence, and complete identification procedures. The woman’s identity is yet to be confirmed.
