Kanpur, June 21: A shocking incident has emerged from the Friends Colony area in the Chakeri police station jurisdiction of Kanpur, where three Rottweiler dogs attacked a 55-year-old woman on Sunday evening. Reports suggest that the dogs belong to the brother of a local Congress leader. The woman sustained 13 deep wounds, classified by doctors as Grade-3 dog bites, and has been referred to Halat Hospital, where her condition remains critical.
The attack occurred when Geeta, the victim, was in the area for the first time to prepare food and perform household chores. While on her way, she was suddenly attacked by the dogs, causing her to panic and scream for help. A gig worker nearby, who had come to deliver goods, bravely threw bricks and stones to fend off the dogs. Children playing in the park also rushed to the scene with cricket bats and sticks to chase the dogs away.
Local women stated that if help had not arrived in time, the situation could have been far worse. Following the incident, Geeta’s daughters, Bobby and Tejaswi, took her to the hospital on a scooter. Geeta’s husband, Jyoti Prakash, works for a private company. Eyewitness and local resident Seema Dixit reported that when she arrived at the scene, the victim was bleeding profusely and her clothes were torn due to the attack.
Seema quickly covered Geeta with her dupatta and arranged for her immediate transport to the hospital with the help of others. Local resident Ratan Gupta expressed concerns about the long-standing atmosphere of insecurity in the area due to these dogs, stating that children are afraid to go to the park. He also mentioned that about four to six months ago, the same dogs had attacked a five-year-old girl. Gupta accused the owners of frequently leaving the dogs unleashed in public spaces, posing a danger to passersby.
