Jaipur, December 24 (Udaipur Kiran) – With the western disturbance fading and winds blowing, the mercury has taken a sharp dip across Rajasthan. Temperature drops ranging from 2 to 8 degrees Celsius have been recorded. The next two days may see further decline in temperatures, after which no major changes are expected.
Fatehpur experienced the coldest night with the temperature plunging to 2.6 degrees Celsius. In 15 cities of the state, temperatures fell below 10 degrees Celsius. Dense fog covered Shekhawati and nearby areas in the morning, causing significant difficulties for vehicle drivers. Visibility dropped below 40 meters, forcing motorists to use headlights.
According to the Meteorological Department, minimum temperatures were recorded as 3.4°C in Nagaur, 5°C in Sikar, 5.4°C in Lunkaransar, 5.8°C in Churu, 6.6°C in Mount Abu, 6.8°C in Jhunjhunu and Pali, 6.9°C in Karauli, 7.2°C in Pilani, 8.1°C in Dausa, 8.6°C in Alwar, 8.8°C in Bikaner and Jaisalmer, and 9.3°C in Sirohi. Lunkaransar recorded the highest drop of 7.7 degrees. Dew was seen settling in parts of Sikar and surrounding areas on Wednesday morning.
Fog has also caused delays in many trains arriving in Jaipur from northern cities. The Agricultural Research Centre in Fatehpur noted a minimum temperature of 1.7 degrees Celsius. In the Shekhawati region, Sikar district witnessed a temperature drop of nearly 6 degrees in a single day. Cold waves led to further temperature decreases at night in Jaipur, Dausa, Bharatpur, and other districts.
In Jaipur, the cold intensified on Wednesday with clear skies and moderate winds. Daytime temperature dropped by 5.5 degrees and nighttime temperature by 3.8 degrees. The maximum temperature was recorded at 22.3 degrees and the minimum at 11 degrees Celsius. Dense fog disrupted air and rail traffic, resulting in heavy crowds at Jaipur Junction platforms. Over ten trains departing from Jaipur Junction were delayed by up to six hours on Wednesday morning.
Some notable train delays included: Galatadhama Puja Express (Jammu Tawi to Ajmer) delayed by 1 hour; Ranthambore Express (Bhagat Ki Kothi to Indore) by 51 minutes; Ranikhet Express (Kathgodam to Jaisalmer) by 1 hour 13 minutes; Mannadgudi Bhagat Ki Kothi Superfast Express by 2 hours 42 minutes; Marudhar Express (Varanasi to Jodhpur) by 2 hours; Marudhar Express (Jodhpur to Varanasi) by 30 minutes; Ayodhya Cantt to Bhavnagar Express by 1 hour 20 minutes; Prayagraj to Lalgarh Superfast Express by 3 hours 30 minutes; Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to Sabarmati Express by 30 minutes; and Dungarpur Bharat Gaurav Train by nearly 6 hours.
