New Delhi – With the start of the new year, preparations for the wedding season are in full swing. According to the Shreedhari Panchang, the auspicious days (sava) for weddings will commence from January 14, coinciding with Makar Sankranti, marking the end of Kharmas. This year, there will be 40 auspicious days for marriages across the 365 days, nine fewer than the 49 days in 2024. These dates will also include days for other auspicious events.

April with the Most Auspicious Days, December with the Least
The highest number of auspicious days for weddings in 2025 will be in April, with eight days, while December will have the least, with only two days. Additionally, six months of the year will be devoid of wedding muhurats, except for Abujh Muhurat, due to various astrological factors.
Key months where no weddings will take place include:
- July to October during Dev Shayan (when deities are believed to be resting).
- March-April during Malmas, when the sun transits through Pisces.
- December 15, 2025 – January 14, 2026, during Kharmas, when the sun remains in Sagittarius.
Furthermore, the Holashtak period from March 7 to March 15, considered inauspicious, will also prohibit any auspicious ceremonies.
Factors Determining Wedding Muhurats
Renowned astrologer explained that the selection of an auspicious day for weddings involves five key factors:
- Strength of the Sun and Jupiter: These are crucial for ensuring a strong and prosperous marital bond.
- Position of the Moon: The moon’s placement on the wedding day plays a vital role in determining emotional harmony.
- Astrological Ascendant (Lagna): The timing of the wedding is determined by a favorable ascendant, which can be fixed, movable, or dual.
- Compatibility of Birth Charts: This includes matching the bride’s and groom’s horoscopes, focusing on Nadi, Guna, and Kundali Milan.
- Avoiding Malefic Planetary Combinations: For example, if Saturn is in the 12th house or Mars in the 10th house at the time of the wedding, it’s considered inauspicious.

Why 2025 Has Fewer Auspicious Days
According to experts, this year has fewer auspicious days because of specific planetary positions during critical periods like Kharmas, Malmas, and Dev Shayan. These celestial events directly impact the selection of muhurats, resulting in a reduction of favorable dates compared to the previous year.
Despite the fewer number of days, astrologers suggest that families can still take advantage of Abujh Muhurats—universally auspicious days where detailed astrological analysis is not required.
