Vaibhav Suryaanshi: A Crucial Asset for Indian Cricket, Says Coach Santosh Pingulkar

Vasai, June 7: Vaibhav Suryaanshi has captured the attention of cricket fans worldwide with his explosive and charismatic batting. Having made his mark in major leagues like the IPL, Vaibhav has now secured a spot in the Indian team. Santosh Pingulkar, the childhood coach of out-of-favour batsman Prithvi Shaw, praised Vaibhav and highlighted his potential significance for Indian cricket.

In an interview, Santosh Pingulkar stated, “He is playing with a lot of maturity. If Vaibhav continues to play like this, he could become a major asset for India.”

He further added, “Vaibhav possesses quality; he understands things quickly. He is not just a slogger but also a good hitter and a timer of the ball. Maintaining consistency will be essential for him. If he continues this way, he could set numerous records and help India win crucial matches.”

Vaibhav showcased his explosive batting in IPL 2025, where he set the record for the fastest IPL century for India. In IPL 2026, Rajasthan Royals provided him with the opportunity to open the innings, and the left-handed batsman excelled. At just 15 years old, he astonished the cricketing world by dominating bowlers like Stark, Cummins, Jasprit Bumrah, Siraj, Rabada, and Hazlewood, amassing 776 runs in 16 matches with 1 century and 5 half-centuries, earning the Orange Cap. He also set a record for the most sixes in a season with 72.

Following this performance, there were expectations that he might get a chance in the T20 series against Ireland. However, when the BCCI announced the Indian team for the T20 series against Ireland and England, along with the 2026 Asian Games, Vaibhav’s name was included for all three tournaments. He now has the opportunity to become the youngest cricketer to play for the Indian team.
