PhonePe users traveling to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) can now pay via the PhonePe app at Neopay Mashreq terminals in retail stores, restaurants, tourist attractions and entertainment venues.

The exchange rate will be displayed during the transaction and the account will be debited in INR.
In addition to Indians traveling to the UAE, non-resident Indians can also download the PhonePe app and make payments on the spot using their non-UAE accounts with certain Indian banks.
Ritesh Pai, CEO, International Payments, PhonePe, said, “UAE is a very popular destination visited by millions of Indians every year. This partnership opens the door to seamless transactions and a more convenient and enjoyable experience for visitors.”
The collaboration is facilitated by Mashreq’s partnership with Dubai-based NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) and is part of the government’s plan to launch UPI outside India. Mashreq now enables Neopay terminals to accept UPI as a payment method.
Anubhav Sharma, vice president of business development and partnership marketing at NIPL, said this is part of the company’s efforts to create cross-border payment solutions for consumers.
“This partnership unifies the ecosystem and simplifies the payment process for Indian travelers to the UAE,” Sharma added.
Apart from facilitating domestic travel and transactions, PhonePe plans to launch domestic remittance services after activating the domestic remittance corridor. Walmart-backed PhonePe today announced that it will simplify the remittance process using UPI infrastructure, eliminating the need for details such as bank account numbers and IFSC codes.
