Uddhav Thackeray’s Isolation: The BJP Factor

Uddhav Thackeray

Uddhav Thackeray, once a stalwart in Maharashtra’s politics and a pillar of the Shiv Sena, is now facing a political crisis. Questions are being raised about why his own party ousted him when the Shiv Sena had 105 seats and was in power. Even after the fall of his government due to a rebellion within the Shiv Sena, Thackeray remained adamant in his opposition to a large faction of his party, leading to the Congress and NCP being unable to save his chair.

Now, unable to hold the Shiv Sena together, Thackeray is blaming the BJP for his plight. He claims that the BJP deceived and betrayed him. While this statement can be interpreted in various ways, it clearly suggests that Thackeray believes the BJP should have supported him rather than Eknath Shinde to remain the Chief Minister.

When the Shiv Sena split into two factions, the BJP allied with the Shinde group, leading to the formation of a new government. It became evident that no party could form a government in Maharashtra without the BJP’s support. Thackeray’s recent statement indicates that he did not give Shinde much importance because he expected support from the BJP, but the BJP did not give him any indication of this.

Driven by his ambition to become the Chief Minister again, Thackeray aligned with the Congress and NCP, disregarding the Shiv Sena’s principles, traditions, and ideology. However, the situation took a turn for the worse when Shinde claimed the government in alliance with the BJP.

Political experts believe that by not giving Shinde due importance, Thackeray betrayed his trust, leading to his downfall. The Maha Vikas Aghadi leaders are now hesitant to support Thackeray. His faction lacks the organizational strength or the ability to lead the government. Moreover, Thackeray has closed the door to rejoining the Mahayuti (BJP-led alliance).

The BJP and Shiv Sena had won 161 seats together, but today, Thackeray finds himself isolated. This is attributed to his excessive ambition to become the Chief Minister.
