Udaipur : Non appearance in a long standing court case landed a police officer in trouble on Thursday when a Gram Nyayalaya ordered him to be kept inside the barrack for sometime before he could file a bail application. Rajesh Sharma, presently posted as the SHO at Dhanmandi police station in Udaipur, had to spend an hour inside the court’s lockup for regular non appearance in a case pending against him. An arrest warrant had been issued to summon him for appearance on Friday, however, due to non confirmity of date, the officer happened to appear before the court on thursday. The judicial officer ordered him to be kept in the lockup for some time and later released him on bail.
According to sources, Sharma was the incharge of Kolva police station of Dausa in 2004. A complainant from Berawas village had went to the station to lodge a case regarding sale of his motorcycle through fraudulent manner. The cop didnt register the case and so the complainant lodged a case at the Dausa court. The court took cognizance in the matter and directed the police station to register thecomplaint. However, the officer didnt adhere to the court’s order and the FIR wasnt registered.
The case has been pending for over 10 years while the cop got transferred and served at various places. Meanwhile, the court had issued warrants for the inspector’s appearance but the cop didnt turn up even once, sources said. Sharma came to know of the arrest warrant but perhaps didnt knew the hearing date that was scheduled for Friday. He appeared before the court on thursday which ordered him to be kept in lockup.
