
Udaipur : Police has arrested a person in connection with the murder of Rakesh Khatwani, a cloth merchant who was shot dead on Saturday in GoverdhanVilas area of the city. Mahesh Sindhi, the accused is a trader at the KrishiMandi here who had hired a contract killer from Uttar Pradesh to kill Rakesh, Udaipur SP Rajendra Prasad Goyal said. Besides a cloth store, Rakesh also dealt with money lending business and maintained a daily recovery diary.
He was also involved in punting business and the accused Mahesh Sindhi owned him a sum of 1.20 lakh rupees. The accused had returned fifty percent of the sum due on him, however, Rakesh had bullied him many times for the amount recovery and even threatned to tell his family of his involvement in the betting business. This had infuriated Mahesh who conspired with one Dinesh Kushwaha, resident of Agra, who worked with him in the Mandi. Both of them planned to murder Rakesh and shift to another city.
“On Saturday , the accused called Mahesh on the pretext of settling the debt and when Rakesh arrived at the decided place, which was a secluded spot, Dinesh fired with a desi katta and both of them fled” Goyal informed. They came back a day after. During investigation, the cops scanned Rakesh’s accounts diary and quizzed all his debtors and Mahesh being one of them, soon confessed his crime. Dinesh is absconding and search has been launched to trace him, police said.
