Udaipur, August 15, 2026: Three extremely low-birth-weight newborns have successfully overcome serious health challenges at the Pacific Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Udaipur. Born weighing just 720 grams, 840 grams and 915 grams, the babies underwent intensive treatment and care for around 45 to 60 days before being discharged in stable condition.
The babies weighed nearly one-fourth of the weight of a normal newborn at birth. All three have now returned home with their parents after recovering at the hospital.
Intensive Care for Nearly Two Months
The treatment was carried out under the supervision of Dr Vivek Parashar, with Dr Rahul Khatri and Dr Manoj Joshi as part of the medical team.
Extremely low-birth-weight and premature babies face a high risk of breathing difficulties, infections, intestinal problems and neurological complications. Maintaining body temperature and ensuring safe weight gain are also major challenges.
Throughout the treatment, the medical team continuously monitored the babies’ breathing, heart rate, body temperature, feeding ability and weight.
Dr Parashar said every day is crucial in caring for such newborns and that timely treatment and coordinated efforts by the medical team can significantly improve the chances of recovery.

PIMS Chairman Ashish Agarwal appreciated the efforts and dedication of the entire medical and nursing team and credited their hard work for the successful outcomes.
Treatment Worth Lakhs Provided Free of Cost
The treatment involved advanced NICU support, specialised medicines and nearly two months of hospitalisation. Such treatment would normally involve expenses running into lakhs of rupees.
However, PIMS provided the entire treatment free of cost for all three babies, providing significant financial relief to their families.
All three newborns have now been discharged in healthy condition and returned home with their parents. Doctors have advised the families to ensure regular follow-up.
