Bangkok (Thailand), October 25 (Udaipur Kiran): Thailand’s Queen Mother Sirikit passed away on Friday night at 9:21 PM at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital. She was 93 years old. Her demise was formally announced by the Thai Red Cross Society and the Royal Household Bureau.
According to a report by the Bangkok Post, the Royal Household Bureau stated that Queen Mother Sirikit had been unwell since September 2019. On October 17, she developed a bloodstream infection, and despite continuous medical efforts, her health deteriorated.
King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua has directed that Queen Mother Sirikit be accorded a royal funeral with the highest honors in line with Thai royal traditions. Her remains will be placed at the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall in the Grand Palace, Bangkok. The King has also declared a one-year mourning period for members of the royal family and palace officials, beginning from the date of her passing.
Born on August 12, 1932, in Bangkok, Queen Mother Sirikit was the daughter of Prince Nakkhatra Mangala and M.L. Bua Kitiyakara. She married King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great (Rama IX) on April 28, 1950, just days before his coronation on May 5, 1950, when she was proclaimed Queen Consort.
Throughout her life, Queen Mother Sirikit remained devoted to the welfare of the Thai people, focusing on rural development, women’s empowerment, and the preservation of traditional Thai arts and crafts. Her legacy continues to inspire the nation she lovingly served.
