Chittorgarh, January 2 (Udaipur Kiran): Tension gripped Kannauj village in RAJASTHAN’s Chittorgarh district on Thursday after a youth who was injured in a violent altercation succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Following the incident, heavy police deployment was made in the area to maintain law and order.
According to police officials, the incident took place on December 27 in Kannauj village under the Bhadesar police station limits. The deceased, identified as Durgesh Regar, was allegedly involved in a dispute with his mother when a neighbouring woman intervened to pacify the situation. This reportedly led to an altercation, after which the woman’s son, Shakeel Mohammad, along with a few others, allegedly assaulted Durgesh, leaving him seriously injured.
The injured youth was initially taken for medical treatment and later referred to Udaipur, where he succumbed to his injuries on Thursday. Following his death, villagers staged protests, demanding strict action against the accused.
Protesters blocked the main road in the village and demanded immediate arrest of all accused, compensation of ₹50 lakh to the victim’s family, a government job for a family member, and demolition of the accused persons’ houses. Tensions escalated further when locals attempted to set up tents on the road, which police prevented, leading to further agitation. Tyres were also set on fire as part of the protest.
Superintendent of Police Manish Tripathi said that police had already taken action following the incident. “After the incident, the injured was taken to the hospital by the police themselves. The family initially declined to lodge a complaint. However, after the victim’s death, a case of murder has been registered, and the main accused has been taken into custody. Interrogation of other suspects is underway,” he said.
The SP added that additional police force has been deployed in the area to maintain peace and prevent any untoward incident. Senior administrative and police officials are continuously engaging with local residents to defuse tensions and restore normalcy.
