Ranchi, August 10: Thousands of students protesting against alleged irregularities in the JPPSC and JSSC examinations broke through the first barricade near the old assembly complex on Monday and advanced towards the assembly. Students from 24 districts marched with flags, posters, and banners, escalating tensions as they moved forward.
The JPPSC-JSSC Reform Forum has urged students to demonstrate peacefully. Police had set up barricades to prevent students from advancing, but a large number managed to cross the first barrier. In response, the administration has tightened security around the assembly and nearby areas. The students are demanding the cancellation of controversial exams, improvements in the recruitment process, and a CBI investigation into the matter.
On Sunday, the third round of talks between the government and student representatives ended without resolution, prompting students to announce a sit-in at the assembly on Monday. Since morning, crowds of students gathered at Birsa Chowk, the old assembly complex, and surrounding areas. Students arrived in Ranchi via buses, trains, and private vehicles from across the state. Many spent the night at Jaypal Singh Munda Stadium, Atal Smriti Vendor Market, and nearby complexes.
Meanwhile, the BJP has also launched a campaign against the government amid the student protests. A meeting of BJP legislators was held under the leadership of former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi, where strategies regarding the movement were discussed. Following the meeting, BJP legislators and workers marched towards the Chief Minister’s residence, surrounding it around 9:45 AM.
Police detained protesting BJP leaders and workers, including Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi, state BJP president Aditya Sahu, and several legislators. In light of the assembly siege, security measures have been significantly heightened in the capital.
A heavy police presence is deployed around the assembly, with barricades and barbed wire set up at various locations. After crossing the first barricade, students are now focused on the next layer of security. While the administration aims to prevent students from reaching the assembly complex, the students remain steadfast in their demands.
