Chennai, August 8: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has forecasted strong winds and thunderstorms in northern Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on Saturday, with light to moderate rainfall expected in some areas.
According to the weather bulletin, a weak atmospheric circulation has formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal, extending about 5.8 kilometers above sea level towards the northern Kerala coast through Tamil Nadu.
Another weak circulation is prevalent at lower atmospheric levels over the coastal regions of northern Tamil Nadu.
As a result of these weather systems, moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and winds reaching speeds of 40-50 km/h is likely in some districts of the Western Ghats on Saturday. Similar conditions are expected in parts of northern Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, where light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds may occur.
Isolated thunderstorms with light rain may also be seen in other parts of Tamil Nadu. The weather is expected to be relatively calm on Sunday, with light to moderate rain possible in some isolated areas of the Western Ghats.
Light rain is likely in some areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal from August 10 to 12. On August 13, scattered light to moderate rainfall is forecasted in the Western Ghats districts, northern coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.
In other parts of Tamil Nadu, light rain may occur at one or two locations. The RMC indicated that there is unlikely to be any significant change in maximum temperatures in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal between August 8 and 11.
Daytime temperatures are expected to remain around normal. Partial cloud cover is anticipated in Chennai and surrounding areas on Saturday, with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms possible in some parts of the city during the evening or night.
The maximum temperature in Chennai is expected to range between 36 to 37 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to be between 27 to 28 degrees Celsius.
