Chennai, June 10: The South film industry is in mourning following the death of renowned producer-director Bharathiraja, who passed away at the age of 84 due to age-related illnesses on Wednesday morning in Chennai. The news has left the cinema world in shock, with tributes pouring in from stars like Rajinikanth, Pawan Kalyan, SS Rajamouli, Siddharth, and Boney Kapoor.
Bharathiraja is celebrated as a pioneer in Tamil cinema, known for bringing authentic stories of rural life to the big screen. His films resonated not only with Tamil audiences but also with viewers of Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada cinema. He was the recipient of six National Awards and was honored with the Padma Shri.

Siddharth fondly referred to him as ‘Aasaan’ and a teacher, asserting that no one could ever replace him.

Andhra Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister and actor Pawan Kalyan described Bharathiraja’s passing as an irreparable loss for the film industry. Director Perarasu expressed his sadness over the loss of such a director, noting that Bharathiraja proved through his exceptional films that ordinary people could also make movies.
