New Delhi, July 24: Activist Sonam Wangchuk has decided to end his hunger strike following 27 days of protest. Ashutosh Ranka, spokesperson for the Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP), stated that they had been urging Wangchuk to conclude his strike due to his deteriorating health. However, he emphasized that the protest at Jantar Mantar will continue until Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigns.
Ranka noted that during discussions with the government, Wangchuk successfully advocated for some of the movement’s demands, which is a positive development. Among the key agreements reached are that no legal action will be taken against the protesters and that adequate compensation will be provided to those affected. A written confirmation regarding the compensation and other decisions is still pending.
Despite ending his hunger strike, Ranka clarified that the movement is far from over. The primary demand for Pradhan’s resignation remains, and the protesters will not back down until this demand is met. The struggle for accountability regarding the issues faced by students and activists will continue.
In related news, Ranka mentioned that a meeting is scheduled for Friday at 12:30 PM with BJP National President JP Nadda at the CCI, with the possibility of Union Minister Jitendra Singh also attending. Details of the discussions will be shared with the public afterward.
