Jaunpur, March 11 – Chaos erupted aboard the Marudhar Express on Tuesday morning when smoke was seen emerging from a general coach wheel. The train, which runs from Jodhpur to Varanasi, had just departed from Jaunpur Junction towards Varanasi when the incident occurred near Jafrabad station.
At 8:44 AM, the loco pilot immediately applied emergency brakes, bringing the train to a sudden halt. Railway engineers swiftly arrived at the scene to inspect the situation. After rectifying the brake issue, the train was allowed to resume its journey towards Varanasi.
Emergency Halt Due to Jammed Wheel
The Marudhar Express (Train No. 14854) was stationed at Jaunpur Junction’s Platform No. 2 from 7:50 AM and departed for Varanasi at 8:27 AM. However, just before reaching Jafrabad station, the brake shoe of a general coach overheated due to a jammed wheel, causing smoke to emanate from the bogie.
Upon receiving information from the train guard, the loco pilot immediately halted the train. After a thorough inspection, the loco pilot cautiously moved the train at a slow speed towards Jafrabad station. Following necessary repairs, the train resumed normal speed at 9:02 AM and continued its journey.
Passengers onboard expressed concern during the halt but remained unharmed.
Railway Officials: Routine Issue in Long-Distance Trains
Speaking on the incident, Railway Track Inspector Naveen Rai clarified that such occurrences are common in long-distance trains.
“Frequent braking in long-distance journeys sometimes leads to brake shoe jamming, which creates friction and results in smoke. There was no major issue, and after minor adjustments, the train proceeded safely to Varanasi.”
Authorities have assured that all passengers were safe, and there was no serious malfunction in the train’s braking system.
