Pune, May 1: Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde launched a direct attack on the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) on Friday, asserting that they had missed the opportunity for Maharashtra’s progress. He emphasized that the current Maha Yuti government has not only restored that opportunity but also provided a high-speed corridor for the state’s future.
Shinde was speaking at the inauguration of the Mumbai-Pune Missing Link project on the expressway. This project aims to eliminate long-standing traffic congestion in the Ghats and ensure faster and safer travel.
Criticizing the previous government’s ‘work from home’ culture, Shinde alleged that the MVA had sidelined or even considered canceling this project. “Some said this project was impossible and tried to cancel it. But making the ‘impossible’ possible is the mantra of the Maha Yuti government,” he stated, expressing satisfaction at being present for the ground-breaking and inauguration ceremony alongside Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Addressing the gathering, Shinde highlighted the historical significance of the expressway, noting that it was a dream of Balasaheb Thackeray and was realized by Nitin Gadkari.
However, the traffic jam issue at Khandala Ghat persists. Shinde acknowledged that the congestion continues to cause inconvenience for travelers. He stated that while traffic jams are a pain, the ‘Missing Link’ project is a permanent and effective solution.
Completed at a cost of approximately ₹7,000 crores, the project is expected to yield economic benefits far exceeding the investment. It will reduce travel time between Mumbai and Pune by 30 to 40 minutes and includes a 182-meter-high bridge in Tiger Valley, now recognized as the tallest bridge in India and listed in the Guinness Book of World Records. The project is also expected to enhance fuel efficiency, with an estimated daily savings of over ₹1 crore in fuel costs.
