New Delhi, June 25: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal emphasized that India’s remarkable growth journey is shaped by resilience, a continuous learning spirit, and a firm determination to move forward despite failures. Speaking at the India Global Forum during the UK-India Week 2026 held in London, Goyal noted that such platforms provide excellent opportunities for people to learn from each other and strengthen partnerships.
Reflecting on his early academic life, Goyal recounted a significant setback during his Chartered Accountancy studies. Despite securing the second position in law at Bombay University, he felt disheartened by his disappointing marks in the law subject during the Chartered Accountancy exam.
Dissatisfied with the results, he traveled to Delhi to review his answer sheet and marks. He recalled spending an entire day with former Institute President K.G. Somani, who explained that exam scores or ranks do not determine a person’s future.
According to Goyal, Somani advised him that success in life is not solely defined by achieving first or second place in exams. He stated that the direction of one’s future is determined by personal efforts, learning capacity, and a forward-thinking mindset.
The minister later realized that this failure was, in fact, a crucial lesson that transformed his perspective on life and success. He remarked that young individuals often place excessive importance on rankings and achievements, but life teaches us to accept challenges and learn from them over time.
Goyal highlighted that life experiences, failures, and opportunities to meet people from diverse backgrounds play a vital role in personal development. He provided daily life examples, stating that some situations cannot always be planned or controlled, much like the unpredictable traffic conditions in cities like London and Bengaluru.
He emphasized that the experiences gained from friends, colleagues, and various programs serve as new learning opportunities and sources of inspiration. Goyal stressed that continuous learning and openness to others’ opinions and suggestions are essential for personal growth and the progress of the nation.
He concluded by stating that the learning process never ends. Individuals and nations that keep learning are the ones that advance and achieve new heights. Goyal asserted that India’s growth journey is based on this philosophy, where transforming challenges into opportunities and learning from every experience is leading the country toward new successes.
