Lucknow, May 8: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) faced their second consecutive defeat in IPL 2026, losing to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 9 runs under the DLS method at Ekana Stadium on Thursday evening. After the match, RCB captain Rajat Patidar expressed that the team fell short by “one or two shots.”
Patidar stated, “We knew how to chase the target. The boys played well. All the batsmen showed good intent. It was a great pitch for batting, and the ball was coming onto the bat nicely. We went till the end, just one or two shots short. We have four more matches, and we will take it match by match.”
Regarding LSG’s centurion Mitchell Marsh, Patidar remarked, “He played exceptionally well. He put pressure on us, especially during the powerplay. Marsh’s innings was outstanding. I was in doubt about whom to bowl to him after the powerplay.”
The rain-affected match saw RCB winning the toss and opting to bowl first. LSG’s opener Mitchell Marsh scored a blistering century, marking the fastest century by an LSG batsman in IPL history. Marsh hit 111 runs off 56 balls, including 9 sixes and 9 fours, helping LSG post 209 runs for 3 wickets in 19 overs.
RCB was set a target of 213 runs in 19 overs under DLS. However, they had a rocky start, losing Jacob Bethel for 4 and Virat Kohli without scoring.
