Rare Convergence of Sawan Monday and Nag Panchami Draws Huge Crowds in Prayagraj and Ayodhya

Prayagraj, August 17: A rare convergence of the third Monday of the holy month of Sawan and Nag Panchami has led to a significant influx of devotees in Prayagraj and Ayodhya today.

At the Dashashwamedh Ghat in Prayagraj, a large crowd of kanwariyas and devotees gathered early in the morning, chanting “Har Har Mahadev” and “Bam Bam Bhole.” Devotees arrived at the ghat from dawn to collect Ganga water for rituals at various Shiva temples.

Kanwariyas expressed their satisfaction with the arrangements made by the government, stating that the provisions were well-organized.

On the occasion of Nag Panchami, the famous Nagavasuki temple in Daraganj, Prayagraj, witnessed a massive turnout of devotees. Despite heavy rainfall, devotees queued from Brahma Muhurta to offer milk, water, and flowers to the Nag deity. Special prayers were also conducted to seek relief from Kalsarp dosha and planetary afflictions.

This ancient temple, located on the banks of the Ganga, is believed to be the main residence of Lord Vasuki, the king of serpents. According to religious beliefs, visiting this temple on Nag Panchami helps alleviate Kalsarp dosha, serpent dosha, and other planetary troubles.

A devotee mentioned, “Today is Nag Panchami. Since 4:30 AM, at least 10,000 devotees have gathered here. There is only one Nagavasuki temple in all of Prayagraj.” Another devotee added, “It is Sawan Monday, and we have come to visit the ancient Nagavasuki temple.”

Similarly, Ayodhya saw a surge of faith on this auspicious day, with devotees performing water offerings at the Siddh Peeth Nageshwar Nath temple, filling the town with chants of Lord Shiva.

A female devotee stated, “We have come from Siddharthnagar to offer water to Lord Shiva on this auspicious occasion of Nag Panchami.” She noted that they took a bath in the morning before lining up for the rituals, mentioning the long wait due to the heavy crowd but expressing satisfaction with the darshan and offerings.

Another individual encouraged fellow devotees to visit Ayodhya for the darshan, highlighting the significance of the day.
