Sawai Madhopur, May 11, 2025 — In a tragic incident at Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve, forest ranger Devendra Chaudhary lost his life after being mauled by a tiger on Sunday afternoon. The fatal attack occurred in Zone 3, near the Yagyashala area, while he was on routine patrol and tracking duty.
According to eyewitnesses, the tiger inflicted fatal injuries to Chaudhary’s neck and remained near the body for nearly 20 minutes after the attack. Fellow forest staff, who were nearby, immediately alerted senior officials, prompting a swift response from the forest department.
Tiger Attack in Zone 3: Details of the Incident
Ranger Chaudhary, who had recently been promoted and was handling additional responsibilities at Jogi Mahal, was en route from the Gudha checkpoint to Jogi Mahal when the incident occurred. The attack took place near Chhoti Chhatri, a known area within the reserve.
After a prolonged effort, the forest team managed to drive the tiger away and retrieve Chaudhary’s body. He was transported to the district hospital, where doctors declared him deceased on arrival.

As of Sunday evening, the Forest Department has not issued an official statement regarding the incident. However, internal sources confirm that an investigation is underway and a high-level review of safety protocols for patrolling staff is expected.
