Director Rajiv Rai has stated that Akshay Kumar’s upcoming re-release of Mohra might not be screened in Mumbai, effectively reducing the chances of a direct confrontation with the anticipated film Ramayana.

Mohra, which debuted in 1994, is scheduled for a limited re-release on November 6, a day after Ramayana’s theatrical launch on November 5. Rai clarified that this move is not intended to compete with Ramayana, as he aims to focus on smaller markets rather than major urban centers.

“I’m not coming against Ramayana… it’s an auspicious date to start something,” Rai told Bollywood Hungama. He emphasized that there might not even be a cinema available for Mohra in Mumbai, making a clash in the city highly unlikely.

Rai has chosen to forgo major multiplex chains for the re-release due to high ticket prices and fees associated with older films, acknowledging the dwindling audience for such screenings. “These films are not going to release in PVR or other multiplex chains where ticket prices are steep,” he said.

While Mohra is set to return to theaters, it will only do so in selected single-screen theaters across the country, which Rai believes is a more viable option given the current market conditions. He noted that the film could tour various centers over the next six months.

The original Mohra followed a gripping narrative involving themes of justice and vengeance, starring Akshay Kumar, Raveena Tandon, and Suniel Shetty. It became known for its action sequences and memorable soundtrack. Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, features an ensemble cast including Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yash, and is positioned as a major Diwali release.
