Chandigarh, May 1: Serious allegations have been leveled against Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The Congress and Akali Dal have shared a video on social media accusing him of arriving intoxicated in the assembly.
During a special session of the Punjab Assembly, Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader Pratap Singh Bajwa demanded immediate alcohol and drug tests for Chief Minister Mann and all legislators. In a letter to the Assembly Speaker, Bajwa requested that the tests be conducted within an hour to maintain the dignity and transparency of the house. The letter also called for the tests to be carried out by an independent medical team from PGI Chandigarh.
Bajwa emphasized that this issue is not just about one individual but is related to maintaining the decorum, accountability, and transparency of the assembly. He stated that the Congress Legislative Party would not participate in the house proceedings until Chief Minister Mann clarifies these allegations through an investigation.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Swati Maliwal posted on the social media platform ‘X’, claiming that CM Mann arrived intoxicated at the Punjab Assembly, which she referred to as the temple of democracy. She accused him of drinking alcohol in various religious places and during official meetings, and noted that he had previously promised his mother he would stop drinking. Maliwal insisted that as the Chief Minister of a sensitive border state like Punjab, Mann should undergo an alcohol test, and if found guilty, should be dismissed from his position.
