New Delhi, August 8: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be the chief guest at the 57th convocation ceremony of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi on Saturday. During the event, he will address over 3,000 graduating students and inaugurate the AI-powered High-Performance Supercomputing Centre at the institute’s Sonipat campus.
The convocation is set to begin at 11 AM, where degrees will be awarded to more than 3,000 students, including 587 PhD scholars.
The Prime Minister will also present prestigious academic honors to meritorious students, including the President’s Gold Medal, Director’s Gold Medal, Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal, and the Perfect Ten Gold Medal.
A highlight of the event will be the inauguration of the AI-powered High-Performance Supercomputing Centre, named “Param Pragna,” which aims to enhance the institute’s capabilities in artificial intelligence, data science, advanced computing, and interdisciplinary research.
Emphasizing India’s commitment to advancing cutting-edge research and artificial intelligence, the Prime Minister will inaugurate this state-of-the-art facility at IIT Delhi’s Sonipat campus.
During a press conference in New Delhi on Friday, IIT Delhi Director Rangan Banerjee stated that PM Modi will award the institute’s most prestigious prizes to outstanding students.
The Director also mentioned that IIT Delhi has initiated a significant national academic and research collaboration network by signing MOUs with 18 National Institutes of Technology across the country.
Earlier, on August 4, IIT Delhi and Cisco announced the launch of the “Cisco Technology Hub” focused on AI and cybersecurity. This collaborative initiative aims to advance research, develop skills, and strengthen the AI and cybersecurity ecosystem in the country.
This partnership brings together Cisco’s technological expertise and IIT Delhi’s academic leadership to promote innovation, facilitate knowledge exchange, and prepare a highly skilled digital workforce. The technology hub aims to become a leading center for AI and cybersecurity research, innovation, and talent development in the Indo-Pacific region, aligning with India’s digital transformation priorities and securing critical infrastructure. The three-year collaboration will work with government stakeholders to strengthen digital frameworks and security standards while addressing real-world challenges for a more robust digital ecosystem.
