Victoria, June 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was warmly welcomed by President Dr. Patrick Herminie on his three-day visit to Seychelles on Saturday. The visit began with a tour of the Seychelles National Botanical Garden in Victoria, alongside President Herminie.
During the visit, PM Modi enthusiastically fed giant tortoises, including Jonathan, who is considered the world’s oldest living terrestrial animal at 194 years old.
The two leaders also planted a sapling in the garden and later met with the staff, who provided information about the garden’s flora and fauna.
PM Modi arrived in Seychelles on Saturday afternoon to attend the golden jubilee celebrations of the country’s National Day. The trip aims to strengthen cooperation and friendship between the two nations.
To welcome PM Modi, President Herminie, several senior ministers, and other officials personally greeted him at the airport, marking a special reception in his honor.
The Prime Minister was welcomed with cultural performances at the airport, including a traditional dance from Kutch. He shared on social media platform ‘X’, “This is a wonderful cultural connection. The dance from Kutch was also showcased during the welcome at the airport. The way our Indian diaspora has preserved and promoted the culture of different parts of India is commendable.”
He also posted pictures of the warm welcome he received at the airport and expressed gratitude for the love and affection from the Indian community.
In another post, PM Modi wrote, “I have arrived in Seychelles. I am deeply grateful for the warm welcome from President Dr. Patrick Herminie at the airport. Seychelles is an important maritime partner and close friend in the Indian Ocean region. I am confident that this visit will strengthen the ties between our countries and enhance cooperation for the benefit of our people.”
