Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin held bilateral talks at Hyderabad House, where PM Modi addressed India-Russia relations and clarified the country’s position on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. The Prime Minister emphasized that India’s stance is clear – the nation stands firmly with peace.
During the meeting, PM Modi said, “Since yesterday, delegation members have been busy in numerous meetings. This summit is progressing with many positive outcomes. President, your visit is truly historic. It has been 25 years since you took office in 2001 and first visited India. That first visit laid the foundation for strategic partnership. Personally, I am delighted that my acquaintance and relationship with you has also completed 25 years. I believe the role you played in 2001 demonstrates how a visionary leader thinks, where they begin, and how far relationships can be taken – India-Russia relations are a brilliant example of this.”
Addressing the Russia-Ukraine war, PM Modi stated, “After the Ukraine crisis, we have been in continuous discussions. You have also kept us informed about everything as a true friend from time to time. Trust is a great strength. I have discussed this subject with you many times and have also shared the world’s understanding. The world’s welfare lies only on the path of peace. We must all together seek paths of peace.”
Clarifying India’s position, PM Modi said, “For the peace-seeking efforts that have been ongoing recently, I am confident that the world will once again return to the direction of peace. In my conversations with world community leaders in recent days, I have always said that India is not neutral. India’s position is the same as the peace position. We support every effort for peace and stand shoulder to shoulder with every peace initiative.”
The Prime Minister added, “The entire world has gone through many crises from COVID until now. We hope that very soon the world will get relief from worries and world communities will get new hope on the path of progress in the right direction.”
PM Modi concluded, “I am fully confident that today we will discuss many subjects throughout the day. India and Russia’s economic relations should expand further, and we should achieve new heights. We will move forward with our meeting with such optimistic results.”
