Pixel Weather App Gets Fullscreen Map Update in Latest Version

May 31, 2025Google has quietly rolled out a visual update to its Pixel Weather app this week, refining the user interface for a more immersive, fullscreen map experience on Pixel smartphones.

What’s New in the Update?

With version 1.0.20250408.758982743, the biggest change is in how the weather map view is displayed. Previously, users would see a bottom sheet with timeline controls when checking a specific location’s forecast map. That UI has now been replaced by a floating card design that houses the play/pause button and timeline slider.

This new floating layout enhances visibility by revealing more of the radar map, particularly around the left, right, and bottom edges, giving the screen a cleaner and more edge-to-edge look. The gesture navigation bar now overlays the map background, further improving the fullscreen aesthetic.

This design wasn’t completely new—Google first introduced it on large-screen Pixel devices like the Pixel Tablet and Pixel Fold. Now, it’s arriving on Pixel phones, ensuring a more consistent experience across device types.

More Visual Polish, Not Functional Overhaul

While this update doesn’t introduce any new weather data features, it builds on the app’s edge-to-edge visual language already seen in other views like the homepage and city weather overview. The goal appears to be a more refined and seamless user experience across all screen sizes.

The last major feature added to Pixel Weather was a pollen tracker, which Google rolled out server-side in early May—currently available for users in the United States.

Broader UI Consistency Across Pixel Apps

The design improvements in Pixel Weather reflect Google’s recent push toward visual harmony in its suite of Pixel-exclusive apps. Notably, Pixel Screenshots has adopted similar edge-to-edge visuals, though Pixel Studio, another app introduced in 2024, has yet to follow suit.

Rolling Out Now

The new Pixel Weather map interface is now widely available through the Google Play Store update or via server-side rollout, depending on region and device. Users are encouraged to update to the latest version for the best experience.
