Udaipur: Doctors at Pacific Institute of Medical Sciences, PIMS Hospital, Umerda have achieved a major feat by closing a heart hole without open heart surgery.
PIMS Chairman Ashish Agarwal said that doctors at PIMS Hospital have closed a patient’s heart hole without surgery. The patient’s treatment was done free of cost under the Chiranjeevi Yojana.
Dr. Mahesh Jain and his team performed the PDA device closure surgery to close the congenital hole in the heart (patent ductus arteriosus). Mr. Agarwal said that normally, the passage between the two main arteries of the heart closes on its own after a few months of birth, but in some cases, it does not close and remains open. This is commonly called a hole in the heart in common language and PDA in medical language.
Dr. Mahesh Jain said that people suffering from this disorder experience shortness of breath, dizziness, weakness, and slow physical growth compared to normal people. The PDA device closure technique is used to close the hole in the heart. The PDA device closure device is an umbrella-shaped device with two umbrellas and a tube-like part in the middle. It is delivered to the hole in the heart as a tube. The surgery and the rest of the procedure was performed by Cardiologist Dr. Mahesh Jain, Cardiac Anesthetist Dr. Vipin Sisodia, CTVS Surgeon Dr. Vivek Rawat, and Noninvasive Cardiologist Dr. Umesh Swarnakar.
