New Delhi, August 6: The Parliamentary Committee on Public Enterprises presented six reports in Parliament on Thursday. The reports were submitted by the committee’s chairman, Baijayant Jay Panda, who is also the National Vice President of the BJP and MP from Kendrapara.
These reports pertain to the 2026-27 session of the 18th Lok Sabha and include a comprehensive investigation report, a horizontal investigation report, and four action-taken reports (ATR).
The committee presented a detailed investigation report on NHPC Limited, a horizontal investigation report on the performance of public sector enterprises in the insurance sector, and an audit report on BSNL’s installation of 25,000 Wi-Fi hotspots. Additionally, action reports on the comprehensive investigation of REC Limited and Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited, as well as a horizontal investigation report on the performance of public sector enterprises in the petroleum and natural gas sector, were also submitted.
Through these reports, the committee assessed the functioning of government companies in key sectors of the economy and provided suggestions for improving governance, accountability, and efficiency.
In the report reviewing public sector enterprises in the insurance sector, the committee emphasized the need to enhance insurance accessibility in the country. It highlighted the goal of achieving ‘Insurance for All by 2047’.
The report stated that there is a need for digital transformation in the insurance system, which would make affordable and easily accessible insurance products available to the general public, thereby providing better financial security for every citizen. The committee’s productivity has significantly increased over the past two years.
In 2024-25, the committee submitted 12 reports, while 18 reports were presented in 2025-26. The committee set a record by presenting eight reports in a single day in 2024 and eleven reports in a single day in 2025.
For 2026-27, the committee has selected 21 topics, including new issues such as aviation, railways, coal, investment in renewable energy, and the use of artificial intelligence in government companies.
The committee will also conduct in-depth investigations into major public sector companies like ONGC Videsh Limited, NewSpace India Limited, and Cochin Shipyard Limited.
Baijayant Panda noted that the active participation and constructive discussions of all committee members have greatly contributed to these reports, enabling the committee to fulfill its parliamentary responsibilities more effectively.
