Pakistan Captain Calls Usman Tariq a Trump Card Ahead of India Match

Colombo, February 14: Pakistan’s cricket captain Salman Agha has referred to spinner Usman Tariq as the team’s ‘trump card’ ahead of their match against India at the R. Premadasa Stadium on Sunday. Tariq has been a topic of discussion in this World Cup due to his bowling action.

Concerns have been raised regarding the legality of Tariq’s bowling style, particularly regarding his delivery stride, where he holds his landing foot in the air before releasing the ball, causing delays.

In response to the scrutiny surrounding Tariq’s action, Agha stated that the ICC has cleared him twice, questioning why there is still so much discussion about it. During a press conference on Saturday, he emphasized, “All our players are equal. You have made Usman Tariq a big deal. He is bowling well. He is our trump card. The ICC has given him a clean chit twice. I don’t understand why there is talk about his action. He is not affected by all this.”

Agha also addressed the performance of experienced batsman Babar Azam, saying, “Babar Azam is not a concern for us. He is scoring runs, and we hope he will help us again on Sunday. We do not want to make many changes in the batting order.”

Acknowledging Pakistan’s poor record against India in World Cups, Agha remarked, “We cannot change history. Our record against India in World Cups is not good, but we will try to perform better.”

In T20 World Cup history, India and Pakistan have faced each other eight times, with India winning seven matches, while Pakistan secured their only victory in 2021.
