New Delhi, May 13: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released the results for the Class 12 board examinations for 2026, revealing that over 90,000 students scored 90% or more, with more than 17,000 achieving 95% or above. However, the board has reiterated that it will not publish a merit list this year.
According to the board, students have performed exceptionally well this year. A total of 94,028 students secured 90% or more, which accounts for 5.32% of all successful candidates. Notably, 17,113 students scored 95% or higher, making up 0.97% of the total pass rate.
Among students with special needs, many have also excelled, with 276 achieving over 90% and 48 scoring above 95%. The success rate for these students exceeded 90%, marking a significant achievement in inclusive education. Of the 6,397 registered special needs students, 6,342 appeared for the exam, and 5,718 were declared successful, resulting in a pass percentage of 90.16%. The board views this as a positive indication of students’ hard work reflected in their performance.
However, there has been an increase in the number of students falling into the compartment category. In 2025, 129,095 students had compartments, which was 7.63% of all candidates. This year, the number rose to 163,800, representing 9.26% of students. Education experts attribute this rise to the increasing competitiveness of examinations and the strict evaluation process.
The overall passing percentage for students nationwide this year stands at 85.20%, which is a decrease of 3.19% compared to last year, where the figure was 88.39%. For the first time, CBSE implemented a fully ‘on-screen marking’ system for evaluating answer sheets, marking the largest digital assessment campaign to date, with 9,866,622 answer sheets evaluated digitally.
