Over 1.33 Lakh People Made Aware of Traffic Rules During Road Safety Drive in Rajasthan

Jaipur, November 8 (Udaipur Kiran): Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, the Rajasthan government is conducting a 15-day Statewide Road Safety Campaign from November 4 to 18, with road safety being treated as a key priority. During the campaign, coordinated efforts are being made by various departments to raise awareness about traffic rules and ensure strict enforcement against violations.

As part of the campaign, the police department has been actively cracking down on traffic violations. Between November 4 and 7, action was taken against 2,949 individuals for drunk driving, 16,160 for over-speeding, 10,888 for wrong-side driving, 1,199 for dangerous driving, 2,863 for driving without reflectors, and 6,269 for vehicles without number plates. During the same period, 1,33,988 citizens were educated about road safety and safe driving practices.

On various state and national highways, the police also promoted the lane driving system modeled after NH-48. Dedicated police teams were deployed to ensure compliance and take action against violators.

The Medical and Health Department examined the eyesight of 1,818 commercial drivers (truck and bus operators) on November 7 and distributed eyeglasses to 291 drivers in need. So far, 2,279 drivers have been tested, and 402 eyeglasses have been distributed.

The Transport and Road Safety Department has issued challans against 6,552 vehicles till November 7. These include 453 cases of overloading in goods vehicles, 163 cases where passengers were found in goods carriers, and 4,356 other rule violations involving freight vehicles. Additionally, 85 passenger vehicles were fined for overcapacity, 19 buses for carrying luggage on the roof, and 741 for other violations. The department has also revoked 163 driving licences, cancelled 33 vehicle registrations, and seized 333 vehicles during the campaign.

Meanwhile, various departments and district administrations are contributing effectively. The Public Works Department has been clearing roadside bushes, repairing speed breakers, installing warning signs and indicators, and closing unauthorized road cuts. The Urban Development and Local Bodies Department has been working on removing encroachments from footpaths, fixing streetlights, and relocating stray animals to safe zones across several districts.
