New Delhi, October 20 (Udaipur Kiran): In a major development, the Bengaluru Police have registered a case against Ola founder and CEO Bhavish Aggarwal and senior executive Subrata Kumar Das for abetment of suicide, following the alleged suicide of a company employee.
The deceased, 38-year-old K. Aravind, reportedly left behind a 28-page suicide note accusing his superiors of workplace harassment. The FIR was lodged after a complaint filed by Aravind’s brother, Ashwin Kannan.
According to officials, the case has been registered under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Bhavish Aggarwal, Subrata Kumar Das — who serves as Head of Vehicle Regulation at Ola — and other unnamed individuals.
The FIR also mentions alleged financial irregularities amounting to ₹17.46 lakh following Aravind’s death.
Police said the incident took place on September 28, when Aravind allegedly consumed poison at his home. He was rushed to a private hospital but could not be saved. Later, his family discovered a detailed suicide note describing prolonged harassment at work and naming senior officials for misconduct and pressure.
The note also mentioned issues with the company’s Human Resources department, alleging a lack of clarity regarding certain money transfers made to Aravind’s bank account.
A senior police officer confirmed that notices have been issued to all individuals named in the FIR.
“They have submitted written explanations, and the investigation is ongoing,” the officer said.
In response, Ola issued an official statement, expressing deep sorrow over Aravind’s death and extending condolences to his family.
“We are deeply saddened by the unfortunate demise of our colleague Aravind. He had been associated with Ola Electric for over three and a half years and worked at our Bengaluru headquarters. During his tenure, he never raised any complaint about workplace harassment or job-related concerns,” the company said.
Ola further clarified that Aravind’s role did not involve direct interaction with top management or the company’s promoters.
“We have challenged the FIR in the Hon’ble Karnataka High Court, which has granted protective orders in favour of Ola Electric and its officials,” the company’s spokesperson added.
To support the family, Ola said it had processed full and final settlement payments immediately after the incident. The company reiterated its commitment to ensuring a safe, respectful, and supportive work environment for all employees and stated that it is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
