The Nothing Phone (3a) series is gearing up for its official launch on March 4, 2025, and leaks have already revealed some of its most exciting new features. This year, the lineup includes two models—the Nothing Phone (3a) and the Nothing Phone (3a) Pro.
A major design upgrade is coming with the Pro model, as Nothing has officially teased a triple-camera setup for the first time on a Nothing smartphone. Additionally, a new mystery button, similar to the Action Button on iPhones, has now been identified as the Essential Key.
Leaked details suggest that the Essential Key will be linked to Nothing’s AI-powered hub called Essential Space, allowing users to quickly save, organize, and retrieve content using AI-powered tools.
What is the Essential Key?
According to a Smartprix report, the Essential Key is a dedicated hardware button located on the right side of the Nothing Phone (3a) series. It will provide one-handed access to Nothing’s custom AI functions via the Essential Space AI hub.
Essential Key Functions
- Single Press → Instantly captures and sends content (screenshots, notes, or media) to Essential Space.
- Long Press → Creates a voice note, which is saved in Essential Space.
- Double Tap → Opens Essential Space, giving users access to their saved content.
This feature aims to streamline organization and information retrieval, making it easier for users to store quick notes, screenshots, and social media saves with minimal effort.
What is Essential Space?
Unlike traditional AI assistants, Essential Space is reportedly an AI-powered memory hub designed to function as a second digital brain.
It will be capable of automatically organizing and storing various types of content, including:
- Voice notes
- Screenshots
- Social media saves
- Images and documents
AI-Driven Features of Essential Space
- Camera Capture → If the camera app is open, pressing the Essential Key will instantly save the photo to Essential Space.
- Focused Search → AI-driven search feature helps users find specific content faster.
- Flip to Record → A gesture-based feature to instantly start recording notes.
- Smart Collections → Uses AI to sort and categorize images, audio, and text, eliminating the need for manual organization.
Essential Space appears to be a feature still in development, with a more advanced version expected to debut later in 2025 with the Nothing Phone (3) flagship.
