Nothing has officially launched its second annual Community Edition design contest for the upcoming Phone (3a), giving users the unique opportunity to shape the look and feel of the company’s next limited-edition smartphone. With a focus on co-creation and community-led innovation, the contest is now live and accepting submissions through April 23, 2025.

Design, Vote, and Co-Create the Next Nothing Phone
Following the success of last year’s Nothing Phone (2a) Community Edition—which saw a glow-in-the-dark design emerge as the fan-favorite—Nothing is once again placing the creative process into the hands of its users. This year, the company has expanded the scope of its contest to include not just hardware design, but accessories, software elements, and marketing material concepts.
Participants are encouraged to select one of four creative briefs and submit original concepts that align with Nothing’s minimalist yet distinctive design ethos. All entries will undergo a community voting round, followed by final selection by Nothing’s internal jury.
Multi-Stage Contest Offers Real Design Collaboration
The contest is structured into five key stages:
-
Stage 1: Submissions – Creators choose a brief, craft their proposal, and submit via the official Nothing website.
-
Stage 2: Voting and Judging – The global community votes, providing valuable feedback and helping the jury assess popularity.
-
Stage 3: Winner Selection – Four winners, one from each brief, will be chosen and announced publicly.
-
Stage 4: Co-Creation – Over a six-month period, winners will collaborate directly with Nothing’s team through workshops and design reviews to finalize the product.
-
Stage 5: Launch – The Nothing Phone (3a) Community Edition will officially launch toward the end of 2025, with winners attending a celebratory global event.
Winners Receive Prize Money, Exposure, and a Seat at the Table
Each winning participant will receive a £1,000 prize and a chance to work closely with the Nothing design and product teams. This initiative not only elevates community voices but reflects Nothing’s ongoing mission to break industry norms by involving its users in authentic and impactful ways.
With the Nothing Phone (3a) expected to arrive as a stylish and affordable device, this community-led version will add a layer of fan-driven personality that sets it apart from traditional releases.
