Nothing has released the first open beta of Nothing OS 2.5, based on Android 14, for the Nothing Phone (2). This is the most significant update to Nothing OS since it was first released with the Phone (2) earlier this year.
New features and improvements
The update includes a number of new features and improvements, including:
- Updated widgets: The widgets library interface has been updated so that Nothing widgets appear more clearly. A new photos widget has also been added, allowing you to display your favorite photos on both your home screen and lock screen.
- Screenshot editor: A new screenshot editor and menu has been added, allowing for more advanced editing features and quick deletions.
- Updated back gesture: The design of the back gesture has been updated to be more in line with Nothing’s style.
- Hidden app icons: You can now hide app icons on the home screen and app drawer. To swipe right in the app drawer to reveal hidden app icons.
- Three-finger screenshot: You can now capture screenshots quickly with a three-finger swipe.
Android 14 features
Nothing OS 2.5 also includes a number of new features and improvements that are specific to Android 14, such as:
- Upgraded back gesture: The back gesture has been upgraded to be more consistent and intuitive.
- Expanded lockscreen shortcuts: You can now add more shortcuts to your lockscreen, including shortcuts to apps, settings, and other features.
- Split ringtone and notification sound volumes: You can now split the ringtone and notification sound volumes, giving you more control over how your phone sounds.
- Improved battery life: Android 14 includes a number of battery optimizations that can help to improve your phone’s battery life.
How to install
To install the Nothing OS 2.5 Open Beta 1, go to Settings > System > System update > Check for updates. If you are not already enrolled in the beta program, you will need to do so before you can download the update.

This is a beta release, so there may be some bugs or instability. It is recommended that you only install this update if you are comfortable with that risk.
Availability
The Nothing OS 2.5 Open Beta 1 is currently only available for the Nothing Phone (2). Nothing has confirmed that it is working on an Android 14 update for the Phone (1) as well, but it is not yet clear when this update will be released.
