Greater Noida, June 15: The Noida International Airport, developed in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, is one of the country’s most ambitious infrastructure projects. Built at an estimated cost of ₹11,200 crores under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, this airport is among India’s largest greenfield airport projects.
The airport will not only enhance connectivity in the National Capital Region (NCR) but also play a crucial role in establishing it as a global aviation hub. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for this ambitious project on November 25, 2021. The development work has been entrusted to Zurich International Airport AG from Switzerland.
Construction has been completed on 1,334 hectares in the first phase, with an expenditure of around ₹11,000 crores. Once all four phases are completed, the airport is expected to become Asia’s largest and the sixth-largest airport in the world. Prime Minister Modi inaugurated it on March 28, with approximately 65 commercial flights planned to operate from here to around 45 cities across the country in the initial phase.
One of the airport’s key features is its quick and convenient passenger handling system. Passengers will take less than 20 minutes to reach the boarding gate from the entrance. After security checks, they will only need to cross a 60-meter corridor to access the boarding gate. The airport’s location near the Yamuna Expressway, which directly connects Greater Noida and Agra, adds to its significance. It will also be linked to the Eastern Peripheral Expressway and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.
Additionally, a station for the proposed Delhi-Varanasi high-speed rail corridor is planned near the airport. There are plans to construct a 71.1-kilometer-long RRTS corridor from Ghaziabad to the airport, which will have 11 stations and cost around ₹16,000 crores. To strengthen last-mile connectivity, the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has already launched bus services. Mahindra Logistics is developing driver training, vehicle tracking, and digital payment systems for cab services.
App-based services like Uber, Rapido, and MakeMyTrip are also ready to operate, and Ola has been granted a license. Furthermore, several companies have been licensed for self-driven and chauffeur-driven car rental services. The Noida International Airport is poised to significantly boost economic development, tourism, and investment not just in Uttar Pradesh but across the entire country.
