‘Internet services suspended for a day’
Udaipur : Muslim community observed Muharram with solemnity on Friday to pay homage to Hussein ibn Ali, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, and other martyrs of Karbala amid strict security. A trivial argument on Thursday night between two communities triggered a tensed situation in Devgarh of Rajsamand district leading to a bandh-like situation in the area on Friday. Shops remained closed while security was beefed up after a community protested against the administration for allegedly not taking action against a group of men who had caused tension during the RamRewari procession at Charbujhanath temple the previous day.
Large number of people had staged protest at the Devgarh police station late night and the situation worsened further when the mob messed up with the cops. The police had to lathicharge to disperse the crowd. The protestors had demanded immediate arrest of the culprits and warned that they wont allow the Muharram procession to be taken out if proper action is not taken against the culprits. To prevent any untoward incident, additional forces were pressed in the entire area while the major markets remained closed during the daytime.
Authorities called for mediation talks with the religious leaders of both the communities and tried to resolve the issue. In a bid to prevent unwanted message circulation on the social media, internet services were suspended from 11 am which is expected to be resumed by Saturday morning after the review of law and order situation, police sources said.
