Udaipur: The Beneshwar Fair, also known as the Mahakumbh of Tribals and the Prayagraj of Vagad, was inaugurated on Saturday by Udaipur MP Dr. Mannalal Rawat, who marked the occasion by playing traditional drums. The event witnessed a massive gathering of the tribal community and dignitaries.

Preserving Tribal Heritage Amid Challenges
During his address, MP Mannalal Rawat extended his greetings to the tribal community and expressed pride in the preservation of their rich cultural heritage. He emphasized that the deep-rooted traditions and legacy of their ancestors continue to thrive despite various attempts to dilute their faith and customs.
The inauguration of the Beneshwar Fair coincided with the 311th birth anniversary of Saint Mavji Maharaj, making the event even more significant. MP Rawat underscored that for centuries, the tribal community has revered Lord Ram, Lord Shiva, and Goddess Kalika, prioritizing culture and national identity above all else.
Criticism of External Influences on Tribal Culture
Rawat strongly criticized external ideological forces that have attempted to disrupt the tribal way of life. He pointed out that some foreign influences, including missionary agendas and certain political ideologies, have sought to mislead and manipulate tribal communities.
He specifically mentioned Verier Elwin, a British missionary, whose policies were aimed at isolating tribals and altering their traditional beliefs. However, the resilience of tribal ancestors ensured the survival of their culture despite such attempts. He urged the community to remain vigilant against such divisive elements.
Tribal Development Under PM Modi’s Leadership
MP Rawat highlighted the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that for the first time, a government is focusing on the holistic development of the tribal community. He affirmed that previous governments did not prioritize tribal welfare, but the current administration is committed to tribal empowerment and progress.
Dignitaries at the Event
The event was presided over by Sabla Pradhan Lalita Devi Dendor. Other esteemed guests included former minister Mahendra Jeet Singh Malviya, Banswara district president Dhan Singh Rawat, former Aspur MLA Gopichand Meena, and several other prominent figures.
Former MLA Gopichand Meena spoke about the significance of Saint Mavji Maharaj’s contributions and the legacy of the Beneshwar Fair.
