Bhopal, August 12 (Udaipur Kiran): Light and drizzling rain has been ongoing since Monday morning in Bhopal and several other districts in Madhya Pradesh. So far, the state has received 26.5 inches of rain, which is 71% of the total seasonal rainfall. Narmadapuram and Mandla recorded the highest rainfall, with 1.25 inches, while Khandwa and Betul saw 0.75 inches, and Seoni and Sidhi recorded 0.5 inches of rain. Due to the local weather system, light rain and thunderstorms are expected to continue in Bhopal and other districts on Monday. However, the monsoon trough and cyclonic circulation are currently far from Madhya Pradesh, so there is no alert for heavy rain until August 16.
On Sunday, the state experienced a mix of light and heavy rainfall. Light rain continued in Bhopal, Vidisha, Dhar, Guna, Gwalior, Indore, Pachmarhi, Ujjain, Chhindwara, Narsinghpur, Rewa, Sagar, Satna, and Umaria. Since Sunday night, Shivpuri city has been experiencing continuous rain, causing water to flow on the streets and flooding low-lying areas. Mandla, Bhind, and Sheopur witnessed heavy rainfall, with Bhind’s Lahar experiencing a 30-minute downpour that caused streams to overflow, flooding markets with up to 1.5 feet of water.
According to the Meteorological Department, the monsoon trough is currently passing through Ganganagar, Delhi, and Sidhi. Cyclonic circulation is active over the northeast, with another monsoon trough passing through the state. Once these systems become more active in Madhya Pradesh, a period of heavy rainfall is expected to begin. Currently, light rain and thunderstorms are expected. The total rainfall so far has exceeded the normal by over 3.5 inches. Another spell of heavy rain is expected to start after August 16, potentially fulfilling the season’s rainfall quota in August. Many dams, including Kolar, Bansagar, Kundalia, Bargi, Indira Sagar, Omkareshwar, Kaliyasot, Bhadbhada, and Kerwa, have already opened their gates due to the heavy rainfall.
