Udaipur : A mother and her 7 year old daughter died when a jeep they were travelling in was swept away in rain waters in Chhani village of Kherwada block in Udaipur on Monday morning. Two others including the driver were rescued after an operation that continued for over three hours.
“ Vimla (30) wo Dinesh Meena and Jasoda were going from Kherwada to Patiya village and had taken a lift from the jeep driver who was an acquaintance” RatanSingh , SHO Kherwada police station told TOI. Four persons were seated inside the jeep when the driver speeded over a bridge that was overflowing with the rain waters. The intense flow of water washed away the jeep to some 50 meters, police said. The two men managed to escape by breaking the glasses while the mother-daughter were drowned inside the vehicle that was filled with water.
The men who were perched on the jeep’s top were rescued with the help of cranes while the bodies were shifted to the mortuary. “ A case of reckless driving has been registered against the driver Hajuram Meena while guards have been deployed at the spot to ensure that vehicles do not cross the bridge while water is overflowing” the officer said.
